Description: COPIASURO
was founded in 1987 and produces, stockpiles, and markets honey coming
from hives kept by small beekeepers located the high and low zones of
the departments of San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, and Alta
Verapaz
Currently the Cooperative has 110 members with 8,125 beehives Apis
mellifera.
During
2007, COPIASURO sold to the fair trade market about 143 mt to 5
organizations in different European Union countries. All the honey was
processed at the stockpiling center that meets the standards for Good
Manufacturing Practices and has a storage capacity for 80,000
kilograms.
Services provided for the members:
- Credit for maintenance, new hives, and honey extraction equipment
- Training and technical assistance for production
- Commercialization of the honey production
- Wax stampings
- Sales of wax stampings and products for pest control.
(ii) Production and marketing of differentiated honeys: regional, polyfloral, and monofloral.
