COOPERAGREPA

Country: Brazil
Principal products: Guarana, sugar, Brazil nuts
Description: Cooperagrepa is located in the northern part of Mato Grosso State, Brazil, where the gateway to Amazonia is also located.
Cooperagrepa came into being in 2003, out of the union of many small farmers coming from different parts of Brazil, who had opted to settle in the Amazon region.
The 318 members of the cooperative are writing new history at the entrance to Amazonia, reestablishing an ecological balance through organic agriculture and trade in products not related to wood.
The products are collected, processed, and packaged in their own agroindustries located in the communities, which have been certified by Ecocert. They are organized into agroecological nuclei for the production of sugar, coffee, guarana, and Brazil nuts.
