Description: The
Consorzio di apicoltori e produttori biologici italiane came into being
in 1983, in Monterenzio, Bologna, but its experience dates back to
1978, where a group of beekeepers first had the initiative to group
together. Today, CONAPI groups 200 associated beekeepers, 9
cooperatives, and 2 associations, with a social base of around 1,300
producers throughout Italy. Additionally, since 2003, rice, pasta, and
tomato producers have joined CONAPI, as has Banca Etica ed Etimos (a
micro-credit consortium).
CONAPI imports and distributes
coffee, tea, honey, cane sugar, and cocoa produced by members of
Cooperativas Sin Fronteras. All of these products reach the market
through the Fairtrade network.
