Description: The
Association produces granulated organic raw sugar for export. The
direct project beneficiaries are the families of the 70 associated
growers, corresponding to 350 individuals, and indirectly to about
1,240 persons in the communities of Jaris, La Palma, Guayabo, and La
Fila de Guayabo de Mora. All the growers are small farmers with
holdings ranging from 0.5 to 10 hectares and form a part of ASOPRODULCE.
They are Fairtrade (FLO) certified since 1998 and have organic
certification from EcoLogica, Costa Rica.
They produce a total of about 500 tons of whole raw sugar per
year.
